In the Back of the Truck

Did you ever hear that public service ad, “Friends don’t let friends drive drunk?” Well, here is my public service ad, “Friends don’t let friends ride in the back of the truck.” Every time I see this cruelty, my blood boils. Countless injuries and deaths occur every year by this heartless act.
So you will have some perspective from where I am coming, please read my last post, Life with Dog. Dog people would never let there dogs ride in the back of an open moving vehicle, restrained or not. As a matter of fact, we do not allow them to ride in any vehicle unprotected and unrestrained. There are some states that even have law against people and pets riding in the back of moving vehicles.
If there is absolutely no other way to transport your dogs without them being in the back of a pickup truck, please use the following safety measures. Never restrain your dog using a chain or leash tied inside the bed of the truck, use the right size crate for the size of your dog, and make sure the crate is secured to the bed of the truck. For inclement weather and heat, there is product called a PupHutTM that will give your dog additional protection from the elements. You still risk eye injury due to blowing dust and debris, so if at all possible always travel with you friend securely inside the vehicle.

Ugh I hear ya. I hate seeing dogs in the backs of pickups. At least people have a choice… for the most part anyway. My dogs wear seat belts.
